The Development Plan of Jinjiang Dream Town for Talents prepared by Wei Yang & Partners has been commended in the category for International Award at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence 2019.

The RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence are the most established and respected awards in the UK planning industry. Running for over 40 years, they celebrate exceptional examples of planning and the contribution planners make to society.

The judging panel commented: “The judges were impressed with the successful introduction of Garden City principles in a historically and environmentally sensitive coastal location, with a broad range of outcomes only a year into inception.

This project is innovative for China, but the judges feel it’s approach of linking universities and villages to create new incubator workspace that could be replicated globally.”

WYP Chairman Dr Wei Yang FRTPI said: “I am delighted to see that our 21st Century Garden City innovation in the Jinjiang Dream Town project has been recognised by the judges.

I believe the success of this project is a great demonstration of how Garden City principles can be adapted to different cultural and social context to create long-term incentives for communities and the environment.

It also shows how British Planning Expertise can be successfully exported aboard. Given the unique position of Jinjiang being at the starting point of 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, I hope this project will open doors to more opportunities along the Belt & Road Initiative for UK planning consultancies.”
