Together with the other 4 finalists for last year's Wolfson Economics Prize, Wei Yang & Partners calls for politicians to take proactive approach to solve Britain's housing crisis. New settlements alongside urban regeneration, urban expansion and town centre intensification should be considered in a strategic manner.
It is recommended that the UK needs a royal commission to depoliticise the planning and development of new settlements. Garden cities could play an important role, in which the accelerated delivery of high quality new homes, jobs and infrastructure - with little or no change in existing legislation and only modest financial support from the public sector.
