Hogwood Garden Village

Wokingham, UK

Hogwood Garden Village forms the southern part of the Arborfield Garrison Strategic Development Location, which was identified in the Wokingham Borough Core Strategy as having the potential to accommodate 3,500 dwellings. As a significant development in response to the countrywide housing shortage, this development would alleviate the problem in the surrounding area, also showcase a new form of sustainable development.

Acting on behalf of the landowner, Wei Yang & Partners were appointed to prepare a ‘hybrid’ planning application for the development which comprises 1,500 dwellings, 10,500 sqm of employment floorspace, a 1,500 sqm multi-purpose neighbourhood centre, a primary school, parks and gardens, sports pitches, allotments, and other amenities.

Based on Garden City principles, the proposal aims to create a pleasant and sustainable place to work and live to meet the needs of a 21st century community. The new garden village grows naturally and reinforces its charming rural setting, with walkable neighbourhoods, public facilities and employment spaces all built around its development spine, the ‘village green’, formed by a series of generous green spaces. Arrangements will be put in place for long term management and maintenance of the assets, as well as the community involvement in the development, as it proceeds.

The master plan was approved by Wokingham Borough Council in 2016 and is now under phased construction.
